Puigmal, 2911m

A rest from triathlon, and I really needed it after 9 weeks' racing, to go to the Vall de Nuria in the middle of the Pyrenees and spend the weekend with Jess.

The plans were frustrated by the rain that made its appearance when we were in the Alberg near to Nuria on our way to the Refugi de Coma de Vaca. We walked there from Queralbs with an incredible sun over our heads. The views were fantastic and just the waterfalls worth every minute of the three hour walk.

But on Sunday we had the big ONE. The trek to the Puigmal, the highest mountain in the area. We started the journey in Nuria after taking the Cremallera (because we had already done that part of the trek the day before) and with good climatic conditions, though they wouldn't last for too long. The first part was an easy ascent and leaving Nuria at our feet and the Puigmal in front of us during the walk through the valley. The toughest part was 500 metres of steep path which we passed through with marked success to finally reach the top of Puigmal with its heigh of 2911m. It was great to have reached it but the terrible fog and the windy conditions didn't let us see the surroundings which promised good views.

We made our way down directly to Queralbs, without crossing Nuria, and going through Fontalba. What seemed to be an easy walk after trying to hunt a Bambi without success became an uncomfortable descent because of the hailstones falling against our skin combined with getting lost in the intense fog!!!!

In spite of the tired muscles it had a very happy ending and we got to the car.
